LEAVENWORTH , Kan. (May 25, 2009)—Retired Army non-commissioned officer (NCO) and longtime Armed Forces Insurance (AFI) employee Larry Smith was inducted into the Leavenworth Hall of Fame on May 19 at the Lewis and Clark Center at Fort Leavenworth.
“Larry's accomplishments, both as an active duty NCO and after retirement from the Army, are too numerous to list. His selfless service to his country as a member of the military embodies the AFI tradition of providing exceptional service and peace of mind for our members,” said Colonel Tom Dials (Ret.), chairman and chief executive officer, AFI.
Smith joined AFI in 1994 as deputy director/executive assistant to the president. He currently is manager of military affairs for the company. During his military service, Smith led and mentored soldiers at every level of NCO leadership with a host of cavalry and infantry units. After retiring from active duty in 1994, Smith has served as president of the Henry Leavenworth chapter of the Association of the United States Army, executive vice president for the 5th Region AUSA, member of the Fort Leavenworth Retiree Council and a member of the Army Chief of Staff's Retiree Council. He served as the Combined Arms Center's top NCO from 1991 to 1994. |
