Leavenworth, Kan. (July 20, 2011)-Over 100 people drove, chipped, and putted to raise more than $35,000 for the United Way of Leavenworth County at the Armed Forces Insurance Hacker's Classic golf tournament on June 13th.

"The United Way is very much a ‘load bearing' structure in Leavenworth County, as such it warrants and deserves our support." said Col. Tom Dials (Retired, U.S. Army), chairman, AFI. "The Hackers' Classic provides a mechanism to provide that support that is both fun and serves the interests of the community, that's a win-win in anyone's book."

Sports celebrities from the Kansas City area along with corporate sponsors on 23 teams competed in the tournament. Sports celebrities in attendance included former Kansas City Chiefs tight end and current Ambassador Walter White, former Kansas City Chiefs safety David Whitmore, and former University of Kansas basketball player Isaac "Bud" Stallworth. The event, which has been held annually for the past 19 years, attracted numerous corporate sponsors, including Commerce Bank, Country Club Bank, US Staffing Adjusting Services, and CSI Leasing. The tournament launched with a Hawaiian luau and auction event that included a football signed by the Kansas City Chiefs Ambassadors, a basketball signed by Bill Self, a basketball signed by Frank Martin, an iPad and much more.

"This year's donation is the largest yet, thanks to the generosity of those who attended." said Nancy Bauder, Executive Director of United Way of Leavenworth County. "Because of supporters like AFI who host events to support the United Way, we are able to achieve long-lasting change in our community."
